post-holiday blues?

i'd say it's more a mix of fatigue and my liver crying.

it's my last week here and that means *drum roll* FINAL EXAMS!!!!!! YAY! actually exams aren't that important here and i don't think i'm really going to study for them. in fact i have an appointment on wednesday night to go drinking at karaoke while the most important exam is on thursday morning. so what that means is drinking until 6 in the morning, sleeping for 30 minutes, then heading off to write my exam.

so if you think christmas is one huge act of commercialism, wait until you see china. since it's not a 'family' holiday like in the western world, it's just buy buy buy buy buy. so christmas eve all the big hotels and restaurants have 1000rmb+ dinners, and the streets are packed with people until the early morning since stores are still open.

so i went to shenyang for christmas weekend to visit my uncle. he called me friday and asked me if i had plans, so i flew down saturday morning to see him. it was cold, dirty, and a pretty shitty city compared to beijing. despite all that it was a good time. i got to eat a lot of good food which i never get to eat here since i'm a cheapass. christmas eve night though we couldn't get a taxi anywhere and the hotel was still going strong until 11pm so we just got some yoshinoya and kfc. christmas day we went to look at one of the tourist sites there that was pretty boring and it was also outdoors in cold -15c. yeah, i know -15c isn't that cold but when was the last time you were just outside for hours standing in the cold for that long.

flew back to beijing last night at 11, called my family and wished them merry christmas, then went out drinking at karaoke. why karaoke? because you get private rooms with a shitload of beer, and 200rmb more gets you a karaoke girl. best concept ever. so yeah, i was drinking until 6 this morning, came home and slept for 2 hours, then off to class like a superhero.

even though i had a nice nap this afternoon, i'm still pretty tired at the moment. i haven't opened my book for tomorrows exam although i think i will in a little bit. funny thing is though that knowing i'm going home so soon i really don't want to leave. i heart beijing.
