first friend

so today i met my first friend.. although i don't know her name. well, she told me in class but i forgot.

so the story begins as i decided to sit in the other class today since i was getting bored and administration let me relieve my boredom by venturing to the other class. since the teachers are the same and just switch during the halfway mark, essentially you learn the same thing.

so there was this girl sitting in front of me who i recognized from calligraphy class as her writing was so perfect that the teacher even asked her if she wanted to pursue more classes. anyways, i helped her out in class today when she was trying to write something and i told her what page to look up in japanese. shocked that i knew japanese, after class she asked why i knew japanese and i told her the story.

i helped her buy something at the 小卖部 as her chinese really sucks. so she joined me at the 食堂 for lunch and i was happy when she told me that my japanese pronunciation was 'paafuect'.

unfortunately, i wasn't so happy when she told me she was engaged.

介绍一下儿

so, i've been here 3 weeks today.
accustomed to the lifestyle yet?
i guess so.

school is okay. only until noon each day so i have the rest of the day to waste away or go exploring, dependent on current mood. exploring by yourself gets pretty boring after a while though, so i usually stay up really late so that i'm tired and nap in the afternoon and wake up just in time for dinner.

food here is pretty gross. the good thing is that it's cheap as hell. if i go out to eat for lunch, dinner i can eat for about 7CDN a day. if i eat on campus instead, i can eat for less than 2CDN a day. i try to eat at least one meal on campus daily since it's so cheap, and nothing here tastes that good anyways.

the thing i miss the most?
having days go by and not being able to even have a real conversation with someone. language barrier and setting situations prevent being able to really talk to people. instead, i push my mandarin to the limit by trying to order food and read signs when i walk around. how fun!
